Infrared camera in distance learning

The LabIR Edu infrared camera can stream live to the Internet. You can also share recordings of pre-recorded experiments and complement them with advanced analyses.

Live image from the camera

  • Connect the camera to the computer with a cable.

  • You can open the live image from the camera, for example, in the RTSP Player - a free application accessing IP cameras through the RTSP protocol. (instructions below).
  • You can share your screen and broadcast the experiment and your comments live to the students.

Recording of the experiment

  • Use the camera to record the experiment in LRC (LabIR ReCording) format.
  • Open the sequence in our evaluation software LabIR Edu.
  • You can share your screen with the students, including temperature analyzes and your comment.

What do you need for a live stream?

  • IR camera LabIR Edu
  • Common network cable (ethernet)
  • Tripod
  • Computer with the free RTSP Player application
    • The camera is accessible via the common protocol rtsp://

Instructions for connecting to the infrared camera

  1. place the IR camera on a tripod
    • The LabIR Edu infrared camera is compatible with common camera tripods.
  2. Connect the camera to the computer with a network cable
    • You need a standard Ethernet cable.
  3. Open the image from the IR camera on your computer
    1. After connecting the cable to the camera, enable the network connection
      Settings > Network > Enable network connection
    2. A few seconds after the connection is enabled, you will see the IP address of the IR camera. Below it, you need to turn on streaming.
      Settings > Network > IPv4 (example: 192.148.0.2)
    3. On the computer, you can access the camera with a program reading RTSP streams:

    4. Enter the IP address of the infrared camere into the address bar in the format rtsp://xxx.xxx.xx.x:5540/live.sdp
      example: rtsp://192.148.0.2:5540/live.sdp
    5. You see a real-time image from the infrared camera!
  4. Share the picture with your students!
    • You can share your screen with an opened VLC with students while doing experiments.
